What is a creatives group?
Well simply put they are a gathering of creatives from various or similar art discipline backgrounds or interests =^^= They are a safe place to share art projects and dreams with other artists but first and foremost they are a place to encourage and inspire one another. They are not a place to boss around other people. If someone is so keen on their idea of how they think you should build your dream, then they should go build one for themselves. Now this isn't to say that people can't give constructive evaluations of another artist's work or their art discipline maturity (improvements in our art =^^= ) that is always welcome.

  Always keep these two rules:
1. This is a place to encourage & inspire, help one another, in order to keep forward momentum for each other in working toward our artistic dreams =^^=
2. Even if it's just you, start a group, pick a name, and most of all have fun =^^=

About ten years ago my friends and I agreed to start a creatives group with the express purpose of encouraging & inspiring one another. Our art disciplines were varied with digital photographers, writers, poets, mecha designers, and world builders. It's known as the Downtown Creatives Group. About two years ago we started another group called Worldbuilders Creative Group and finally we have our latest incarnation known as Bots and Pans Creatives Group with a baker, rapper, and world builder =^^=

When should you start one?

Right now. There's no reason to wait. Even if it's just you, start a creatives group anyway and invite other artists to it. Just explain the rules to them first =^^=

What do we talk about?

At all our creatives groups we talk about our weekly goals, show off our projects or other artists we admire, then it usually launches off into various discussions about world building, fav anime & manga, movies, books, characters, desserts, landscapes to shoot, etc. At a couple of the groups we will work on our world building or cook and bake while talking about recipes.

Who should you invite?

Having creative groups that are focused on specific art disciplines, such as our World Builders Creatives Group, is really nice because you need that peer group within your art discipline focus. So if you are into music, illustration, culinary, poetry, or world building create a group focused on those pursuits. If you know several artists with varied art disciplines then create a group that is focused on encouraging and inspiring artists in their individual endeavors. Form several if you need to =^^=

No matter what type of groups you form, remember to learn from one another. Every artists has something to bring to the canvas. Also remember that creatives groups are about finding like minded people to form a community around. Be wise about who you invite and remember to have fun =^^=

This is the first in a series about creatives groups and I can't wait to share with you guys how much fun these groups are. If you have any questions please post them up =^^=

Courage is not the absence of fear and risk but what we do when confronting them.
Forward momentum.

Be creative.
Always use your voice.

=^^=

As you've shown firsthand, it's not that difficult to get these going. It's just a matter of getting off one's arse, starting it up, and being consistent in scheduled (as well as informal) meets!

Great post on a great topic. =)
